Emergency Services

Emergency services are among the vital services Presbyterian provides at our hospitals.

Emergency Services

If you have an emergency medical need, call 911 or the emergency number in your area. If you think you need treatment but it’s not an emergency, try these options:

  • Call NurseAdvice New Mexico at 866-221-9679, 24 hours a day. A nurse will help you decide where to go for the right treatment. This is a free, statewide service.
  • Call your Primary Care Practitioner office or go to an urgent care clinic.

Presbyterian Hospital Emergency Department
The Presbyterian Hospital Emergency Department in Albuquerque is helping patients who come to the Emergency Department with non-emergencies get the care they need in the most appropriate setting.

What to expect during a visit to the emergency department

  • All patients receive a medical screening exam to determine their appropriate level of care.
  • If your condition is an emergency, you will be treated in the emergency department.
  • If your condition is not an emergency, you will meet with an onsite patient navigator.
  • The navigator will make an appointment for patients to be seen quickly in a primary care office or refer patients to urgent care if primary care is not timely enough or inconvenient.

Note: Patients who wish to be treated in the emergency department after being informed that their condition is not an emergency will be required to pay for services at the time of treatment. Under these circumstances, the patient will likely not be reimbursed by their health plan.

Presbyterian feels it’s important for you to become established with a primary care provider who can focus on the totality of your health. We are very optimistic about this new and innovative approach as we work to make healthcare more affordable, accessible and of the highest quality.
